RETIREMENT TO
THE RICHWOOD AREA
If you've read some of the statistics on the side bar, you already know West Virginia is a good state in which to relocate. Now, let's talk about retirement in Richwood. If you are an active Senior, please come and join us:
1. Many homes are for sale at very reasonable prices. Housing is less expensive in Richwood than in many other places in Nicholas County.
2. If you like to walk, you can walk to the local grocery store, your church, the bank, post office, drug store, the basic necessities.
3. You can also walk on the track at Richwood High School (we have a great track team) or walk around Pratt Field.
4. If you like hiking, there are many trails available nearby in the Monongahela National Forest. You can walk around the Cranberry Glades Boardwalk, visit the Falls at Hills Creek, or take one of several marked trails off The Scenic Highway.
5. If you're into mountain biking, or hiking, or horseback riding you can enjoy the Cranberry/Tri-River Rails to Trails near Holcomb. Only non-motorized vehicles may use the Trail, so it's a peaceful trip.
5. In the winter you can do cross country skiing (they don't plow Rt. 150, The Scenic Highway). Or you can visit the Rails to Trails and cross country ski there.
6. Of course, there's plenty of fishing. We have the Cherry, Cranberry, Gauley, and Williams Rivers and more. You can fish for trout and more, depending on the season.
7. Summit Lake (where we hold part of our Scenic Mountain Triathlon each year) is a beautiful place to fish, walk around, have a picnic, or just enjoy.
8. We have a local Richwood Family Practice Clinic run by the nearby Summersville Regional Medical Center.
9. We have two local dentists.
10. We have a local Nicholas County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center if you like to do volunteer work. The Chamber and CVB can always use volunteers.
11. If you play golf, we have our own Cherry Hill Country Club and others nearby.
12. If you want to retire from work, but not life, how about starting a business here? (See the Relocation Page)
13. We are working to make our small town better. If you'd like to become a part of our team, please come and join us.
For interesting old photos and info, please visit the Richwooders site. It's been online for years and the man who does it has a lot of interesting information about Richwood. We are not affiliated with him, but we think he does a good job.
