This is a sanctioned State and Olympic qualifying event and is proud to be celebrating its 39th year.

The entire race is held in the Monongahela National Forest (under special use permit). The race starts with a .5 mile swim in Summit Lake, followed by a 17.1 mile bike ride over Kennison Mountain (elevation of 3,988 feet) to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center. The race concludes with a 6.2 mile run down to the Cranberry Glades and back to the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center to the finish line.

The bike ride breakdown is as follows:

The bike course starts at Summit Lake at 3,392 feet in elevation descending Summit Lake road to route 39 with a 2 mile downhill 9% grade. The next 8 miles to Pocahontas County line is a gradual climb of 540 feet. The next 3 miles to the base of Kennison Mountain is a gradual 103 foot climb. From the base of Kennison Mountain to the top is a 1.5 mile 9% grade sharp climb of 603 feet. The last 2.5 miles is a 9% grade downhill to the Nature Center running transition point. The 3,988 represents the altitude of the last climb (base of Kennison to the top).
